The 12 Steps of Recovery for the USA
The 12 steps...applicable to more than just alcohol! Here's to all the drunks and addicts out there!
We admitted we were powerless over our constitutional promise of “we the people”—that our institutions had become unmanageable.
Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore our union.
Made a decision to turn our institutions over to the people.
Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves and our institutions.
Admitted to a higher power, to ourselves, and to the people the exact nature of our wrongs.
Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
Humbly asked the states to remove our shortcomings.
Made a list of all people we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.
Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would compromise our constitution.
Continued to take institutional inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.
Sought through debate and laws to improve our conscious contact with the people, praying only for knowledge of their will for us and the power to carry that out.
Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to the people, and to practice these principles in our union.
Thank you Bill W.
